Call (805) 568-2200(County Elections Division) to request a voter registration form. Voter registration forms are also available in the City Clerk's Office.

General Municipal Elections are held in November of odd-numbered years and are administered by the City Clerk's Office. For further information, please call (805) 564-5309, visit the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall at 735 Anacapa Street. For past years information, please refer to the Past Elections link.

Vote-by-Mail Election

  • Tuesday, November 3, 2015.
  • The City's general municipal election will be a vote-by-mail election.
  • New in 2015– the City’s general municipal election will be by-district, rather than at-large. Only voters who live in Districts 1, 3 and *TBD will be receiving ballots for the City Council race.*The City Council will be deciding in June 2015 on the third district that will be placed on the ballot.
  • Voters who live in the designated districts will be mailed a ballot with prepaid postage on the return envelope.
  • Four drop-off centers throughout the City, allowing voters the option to vote in person. Drop-off center locations will be listed below when available.

Important Election Dates

  • July 13, 2015 - Nomination Period begins (where potential candidates can pull papers to run for City Council)
  • August 7, 2015 - Nomination Period ends
  • October 5, 2015 - Ballots mailed to registered voters in Districts 1, 3 and TBD
  • October 19, 2015 - Deadline to register to vote for the November 3, 2015 election
  • November 3, 2015 - Election day! Ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m.

  • City Councilmember (Districts 1, 3 and the third district will be finalized by the City Council in June 2015): Term: 4 years

Drop-Off Center Hours

    City Hall Drop-Off Center will be open:

  • Tuesday, October 27, 2015 - Friday, October 30, 2015 and Monday, November 2, 2015, during regular City Hall business hours;
  • Saturday, October 31, 2015, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and
  • Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2015, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • All other Drop-Off Center Locations will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2015, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Vote-by-mail ballots can be dropped off in the City Clerk’s Office during regular business hours prior to the Drop-Off Center dates.

The City Clerk's Office is open daily from Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. City Hall is closed every other Friday.

To pick up a paper voter registration application visit your county elections office, library, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, or U.S. post office. It is important that your voter registration application be filled out completely and be postmarked or hand-delivered to your county elections office at least 15 days before the election.
