The City Adopts an Ambitious Carbon Neutrality Goal by 2035

On September 29, 2020 the Santa Barbara City Council adopted an ambitious and bold goal of Carbon Neutrality by 2035. This means that the City aims to remove as much greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere as it releases. The City joins the City of San Luis Obispo in emphasizing the urgency of addressing climate change.

The City will now develop a visionary Climate Action Plan that will:

  • Build on the City's commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2030.
  • Make more strides on zero emission transportation and buildings.
  • Develop policies to sequester remaining carbon in our region's working lands.
  • Energize climate resilience efforts.

Stay tuned for ways that you can engage in this exciting community effort.
