New Zoning Ordinance Adopted!

The City of Santa Barbara has adopted a New Zoning Ordinance.

The Zoning Ordinance establishes the zone classifications, permitted uses, development standards and permit processes for land development and use.

On July 25, 2017, the City Council held the second of two required hearings (Introduction and Adoption), and voted unanimously to adopt the New Zoning Ordinance, Title 30.  The effective date is October 1, 2017, and it will be applicable only to properties outside of the Coastal Zone.

Properties within the Coastal Zone (i.e. having an overlay zone designation SD-3) will continue to be regulated by the existing Zoning Ordinance, Title 28. Applicability of the New Zoning Ordinance within the Coastal Zone will follow certification by the California Coastal Commission, tentatively expected in late 2018/early 2019.
