UPCOMING ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT ORDINANCE HEARING AT CITY COUNCIL
On May 8, 2018 City Council will hold a public hearing to consider adoption of amendments to the Santa Barbara Municipal Code to establish development regulations for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). This hearing follows City Council’s April 17, 2018 hearing during which Council members provided direction to staff on a few remaining issue areas that have generated the most discussion throughout development of the draft ordinance: owner-occupancy requirements as reflected in a recorded covenant, High Fire Hazard area considerations, and open yard requirements. These aspects of the ordinance were revised to reflect the City Council’s direction.
We encourage you to stay informed and attend the public hearing. The ADU webpage includes information about this work effort at SantaBarbaraCA.gov/ADU. To receive updates of future meetings regarding ADUs, please subscribe for notifications by following the instructions under the “Get Involved” tab on the ADU webpage.

Meetings can be viewed live on City TV-18, or on your computer at SantaBarbaraCA.gov/CityTV. A rebroadcast schedule can be found at SantaBarbaraCA.gov/CityTVProgramGuide.
