COVID-19 Updates from Building & Safety
The LDT Bulletin is one way we are increasing communication between the City and our customers. These bulletins will also be located in our lobby area at 630 Garden Street.
We hope you'll find the contents of this issue useful. However, if you prefer not to receive this publication in the future, simply send us an email to: LandDevelopmentTeam@SantaBarbaraCA.gov
The health and well-being of our community members and staff is our top priority. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to stay informed and to help reduce the spread of the virus while continuing to provide essential construction services to our community.
Here is what Building & Safety is doing:
Processing building permit applications and plan checking while staff move from the office to remote (home) work areas.
Conducting hundreds of live-video building inspections each week.
Quarantining incoming building permit documents prior to processing them.
Scanning all building permit paper applications, plans and documents submitted to us and uploading them into our permit system.
Adapting our entire building permit process to function without paper or in-person activities.
See SantaBarbaraCA.gov/BuildingHandouts to find our building permit PDF submittal standards.
Preparing and delivering electronic plan check training for our staff.
- Contracting with one of our permit system service providers to increase access to on-line building permit services and allow for building permit PDF uploads via the web.
Scheduled actions Building & Safety will implement within the next two weeks:
Effective March 30 -
Only accepting building permit paper applications, plans and documents when the applicant agrees to a $45 - $185 scanning fee (depending on the number of plan sheets) for each round of plan check. At least 5 working days of additional processing time may be added to the plan check dates to allow for scanning and upload of paper plans.
- Accepting building permit PDF applications, plans and documents via applicant provided thumb drives. (This avoids City plan scanning and plan archival fees and plan check processing delays mentioned above.)
Effective the week of April 6 -
