Effective October 1, 2019, credit/debit cards will only be accepted for land development and construction permit transactions at or below $2,500. This includes all payments at the cashier located at 630 Garden Street, Santa Barbara, CA. Please be prepared to pay via check or cash for any transaction over $2,500.
Over the past year, we have seen an increase in the use of credit cards for Planning, Building, and Public Works permit payments, and the City cannot continue to absorb the increased credit card transaction fees. Therefore, a decision has been made to limit the use of credit/debit cards for transactions over $2,500. An analysis of all credit card transactions over a four month period indicates that approximately 95% of all credit card transactions were at or below $2,500, so it is anticipated that credit/debit card payments will continue to be accepted for the vast majority of future transactions.
The City is working with our credit card vendor, and it is anticipated that in mid-2020, we will have the ability to accept all credit card transactions with a convenience fee.
