Eastside Connects Preliminary Design Underway

The scope of work and preliminary plan for the Eastside Connects Project is nearly finalized. The City will hire a consultant to finalize the Project design.

The Project’s major components remain the same. The Project will create a bike boulevard along Alisos Drive to create a continuous, safe passage alternative to Milpas Street. Missing sidewalk and curb ramps on Alisos Drive will be installed for pedestrians. Additional pedestrian benefits, especially for those walking to Eastside schools, include new flashing beacons and curb extensions at select intersections. Finally, the Project will enhance the Cota and Haley on-street bike lanes with green conflict striping at intersections to improve safety, will connect those lanes to the Alisos bike boulevard, and will stripe an on-street bike lane on Ortega Street.

Community engagement is anticipated for fall 2019, and the advisory board review process is expected to begin in winter 2020. Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to give feedback on the Project’s design as it progresses.
