Hello Santa Barbara, I am Alejandra Gutierrez, and I am running to become your council member for District 1(D1). I’m running because D1 is my home and my community. D1 is a very special place. It is where I went to school and where my friends and family live. It is one of the only working class neighborhoods left in Santa Barbara. It is diverse: 50% Latino, 50% Caucasian and a large immigrant community. This is what makes this district special. There are many needs in this district and I’m ready to take on the challenge.
I’m a problem solver: The work I have done at Franklin Elementary a Title 1 school, meaning that the majority of students at that school fall below the poverty line is one example of my community commitment. Through my leadership and collaboration we brought basic need resources to the heart of District to serve children, youth and families. This resulted in Franklin reaching one of the highest state test scores in the school district.
My district has great needs. Public safety, crumbling infrastructure, traffic safety, homelessness and a challenging rental market are issues of great importance for our residents and I am here to tackle these issues and offer sound and solid solutions and policy. I am dedicated to serve your needs.
I want to bring that same community collaboration to the City Council. Our city deserves a new generation of leadership. One dedicated to the people, one that listens, responds and cares. Some of our challenges are obvious, some are more hidden, but listening to others and being considerate will create change.
This district election will start the first week of October and end on November 5th, this election is a mail in ballot only. Make sure to register to vote, It will be an honor to receive your vote on this election. Vote Alejandra!
