To pick up a paper voter registration application, visit the City Clerk's office, county elections office, library, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, or U.S. post office. It is important that your voter registration application be filled out completely and be postmarked or hand-delivered to your county elections office at least 15 days before the election.

General Municipal Elections are held in November of odd-numbered years and are administered by the City Clerk's Office. For further information, please call (805) 564-5309, visit the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall at 735 Anacapa Street. For past years information, please refer to the Past Elections link.

Vote-by-Mail Election - Tuesday, November 3, 2015

New in 2015– the City’s general municipal election will be by-district, rather than at-large. Only voters who live in Districts 1, 2 and 3 will be receiving ballots for the City Council race. Voters who live in the designated districts will be mailed a ballot with prepaid postage on the return envelope.
Four drop-off centers will be located throughout the City, allowing voters the option to vote in person. Drop-off center locations are listed below.

Important Election Dates

July 13, 2015
Nomination Period begins (where potential candidates can pull papers to run for City Council).
August 7, 2015
Nomination Period ends.
October 5, 2015 - Ballots mailed to registered voters in Districts 1, 2 and 3. October 19, 2015 - Deadline to register to vote for the November 3 election.

November 3, 2015 - Election day!
Ballots must be postmarked by this date.

Please note:  A new California law went into effect this year that requires the City to accept ballots that are postmarked on Election Day.  Final election results won't be tabulated until Monday, November 9, in order to include those ballots that were postmarked on Election Day, but received after Election Day.  Ballots that were received up to 8:00 p.m. on November 3rd will be counted on Election Night at City Hall in the Council Chambers.

Drop-Off Center Hours for City Hall and Election Day Centers:

Vote-by-mail ballots can be dropped off in the City Clerk’s Office during regular business hours prior to the Drop-Off Center dates.

Saturday, October 31:

Election Day
Tuesday, November 3: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
