I am Jason Dominguez and I am running for City Council in the First District to protect our neighborhoods, improve the responsiveness of City Hall to residents and businesses and maintain the small town charm of our city.
I bring 25 years of professional experience and leadership to bear on city issues. I have worked in the criminal justice system as a prosecutor. I crafted sentences that placed hardened criminals behind bars and provided rehabilitation services to non-violent offenders. I have conducted mental health competency hearings and helped the homeless find housing. I reduced crime 20 to 45% in various categories while running an anti-crime task force. I have the knowledge required to improve the safety of our neighborhoods.
I have extensive civil law and government law experience. I studied land use and local government law at Boalt Hall school of law at UC Berkeley. I worked as a Santa Barbara County government attorney, providing counsel to the board of supervisors and department heads, while protecting the County from economic loss and risk. I have the right background to take on the issues confronting our city.
In the second half of my career, I have been a leader in the non-profit sector, having worked for California Rural Legal Assistance and the Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara on such issues as land use, affordable housing, domestic violence, and safe water initiatives. I founded a non-profit called the Justice Center of Santa Barbara that focuses on legal issues facing seniors, including consumer fraud, as well as other unmet legal needs of the community.
Before I went to law school, I taught high school. I understand the value of education and after school programs for the success of our children and will work to improve these offerings on the Eastside.
My wish is for every household to be healthy and happy. Santa Barbara is a great places to live, but I want to work together with you to make it even better.
My key initiatives include:
I have the qualifications, leadership experience and passion to improve the quality of life for all residents of Santa Barbara. When you receive your ballot in the mail in early October, I would be honored to have your vote. Thank you.
