K. Missy McSweeney-Zeitsoff

Hello, friends and neighbors!

I have decided to run for SB City Council in the newly created District 2. I have a strong resume, acquired over the years of hard work and life experience that have shaped my 69 years.

I graduated from UCLA with a BA in English/Speech. I acquired my Secondary Teaching Credential from the UCLA School of Education. In 2012, I took classes in negotiation and mediation at the Pepperdine University School of Law's Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. I am currently a guest-teacher at Notre Dame School, SB, and for the Carpinteria School District. I serve on the Fire and Police Commission for SB, and I am the Vice-President of the Dingle, Ireland SB Sister City. I am on the Steering Committee of the Coalition Against Gun Violence.

Formerly, I was on the very first Malibu City Council, was a recipient of the Malibu Times Citizen of the Year Dolphin Award, the PTSA Honorary Service Award, and was Woman of the Year for my Assembly District 41 in 1995. I have focused on at-risk youth during my career, having worked for the State of California at the Youth Prison in Camarillo, and at the old Santa Barbara Juvenile Hall as a Youth Counselor and Juv. Institutions Officer, working for the SBCO Probation Dept. I am currently involved with the Pro Youth Movement in SB. My family lives in Santa Barbara, Montecito and in the South Bay. I have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. I have a desire to serve District 2, and the entire City, in the areas of improvement that are needed: public safety; drinking water; infrastructure improvements; neighborhood compliance with zoning and environmental protection issues. A required Reserve Fund for the City; dealing with wayward youth and the homeless increase. Business, small business incentives and corridors will also have my attention. SB Parks are in need of careful improvements, also more recreation programs for youth and adults are vital. District 2 has specific needs: ban of illegal RV parking; housing for SBCC students; waterfront issues, including water quality construction, and tourism impacts

Thank you for your help, and every vote is a victory for me.
