Hundreds of families flocked to the Waterfront to get in the holiday spirit at the 33rd Annual Parade of Lights on Sunday, December 8th. Ten tons of snow enthralled children of all ages at Santa's Village on the City Pier. For some it was their first experience wit the white stuff. Santa's arrival was greeted with cheers from the throngs anxious to get a picture with Old Santa Nick.
Over at Stearns Wharf the festivities were kicked off by a tree lighting ceremony. And, while the rain dimmed the lights, it couldn’t dampen the holiday cheer spurred on by the beautiful voices of the San Marcos High School choir.
Parade entries were down this year, probably due to the rainy weather, however the wind calmed and the skies cleared just in time for the event. What was lacking in numbers, was more than made up for by the enthusiasm of crews that fully embraced this year’s theme of Deep-Space Holidays. Winners took home hundreds of dollars in cash as well as prizes donated by local merchants.
The spectacular fireworks show that followed the parade wowed the crowd and was a perfect ending to this fun-filled day. The Parade of Lights is sponsored by the Waterfront Department, the Harbor Merchants Association and the Wharf Merchants Association.
Mark your calendars, next year's Parade of Lights will be on Sunday, December 13th.
