Santa Barbara has an excellent public transportation infrastructure. Local buses are owned and operated by Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD). Their website is mobile friendly and easy to use on your smartphone. All buses take dollar bills and coins, with no change provided. You can also use a pre-purchased bus pass to board any MTD bus.
In addition, MTD offers the Downtown and Waterfront Shuttles, which offers convenient quick-stop transportation between Victoria Street (Arlington Theater) and Stearns Wharf for a $0.50 fare. MTD's Downtown & Waterfront Shuttles are sponsored by the City of Santa Barbara to provide frequent shuttle service along busy State Street and the Waterfront area.
|Transfers are required for connecting between the Downtown and Waterfront Shuttles. As you board your first shuttle, ask the driver for a FREE shuttle transfer. Shuttle transfers are not valid on other MTD routes.|

The City and MTD support intermodal trips so you can bring your bike on the bus. MTD buses are equipped with bicycle racks. Check out these bike on bus tips from MTD.
To support your bike-bus trip the Bikestation is currently located three blocks from the downtown transit center at 1219 Anacapa (next to Coffee Cat). It is a secure bicycle parking facility open 24/7 to members only. Amenities include showers, restrooms, day-use lockers, work stand and tools, air compressor and more. A smaller facility (lockers only) is located next to the transit center at 1020 Chapala Street.
