Over 30,000 commuters visit Santa Barbara every day, and the city has about 1 million visitors every year. This can be a challenge for a city with less than 90,000 residents, and sometimes traffic can be a bear! If you commute to Santa Barbara, check for updates on highway construction and consider shifting your commute times to off-peak, if possible, to avoid heavy traffic. Visiting on weekends? Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons can be the most frustrating times, so plan your trip accordingly.
The Highway 101 HOV Lane Widening Project marks one of the largest projects undertaken by Caltrans in Santa Barbara County. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2017.
