Under the auspices of the Public Works Department, the City of Santa Barbara’s Water Distribution program delivers an average of over twelve and a half million gallons of potable water per day. Our Gibraltar Dam, surrounded by rugged mountains, and the serene Lake Cachuma, are the two major sources of our water. After this water has been treated to meet regulatory standards, we distribute this potable water to more than twenty-six thousand active points of service. Major components of the distribution system include reservoirs, pumping stations, pressure-reducing valves, pipelines, fire hydrants and water meters.
Our mission is to convey water to customers in a reliable and cost-efficient manner and provide drinking water that meets all state and federal regulations.
