On Thursday, February 18,2016, at 3:00pm, Mayor Helene Schneider will host a ceremony to open the New Cota Street Bridge for public use. The Cota Street Bridge Replacement Project began construction in March 2015, and was scheduled for completion in April of 2016. Granite Construction, Inc., worked long days and weekends to stay ahead of the predicted El Nino storms. This diligence, and an unexpected dry winter, allowed them to have the bridge ready for traffic two months ahead of schedule. Traffic will begin using the bridge after the ceremony; however, the entire project will not be complete until the landscaping is established.
The old bridge was deemed structurally deficient and was replaced to meet current State of California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) standards. This is the 5th bridge to be completed in the last four years under the Federal Highway Bridge Program.
Please consider walking or biking to this event as parking in the Cota Street neighborhood is extremely limited.
