In certain circumstances, eligible persons may apply for permits to park Oversized Vehicles on City streets. Temporary, Contractor, and Disability Oversized Vehicle Permits are subject to SBMC Section 10.44.220 and the adopted Rules and Regulations, in addition to all other state and local laws.
Without an oversized vehicle permit, trailers, mobile homes, buses, and trucks in excess of ¾ ton may not park on any city street for longer than 30 minutes and must be actively loading or unloading. An oversized vehicle permit allows trailers, mobile homes, and trucks in excess of ¾ ton to park on city streets for up to two hours per day.
To apply for a Parking Restriction Waiver, a permit which allows parking in a specific location on a temporary basis for storage containers, moving vans, construction, or special events, please contact the Public Works Permit Counter at 630 Garden Street at (805) 564-5388. The Downtown Parking office does not issue Parking Restriction Waivers.
Oversized Vehicle Disability Parking Permits are available to individuals who have a valid disabled placard or license plate and who require an oversized vehicle to accommodate their mobility-related disability. These permits are valid for up to one year and may be renewed. Oversized Vehicle Disability Parking Permits may be used by the permit holder to park adjacent to their home, workplace, or facilities where they receive services.
Contractors Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits for businesses with oversized commercial vehicles. Permitted vehicles may park in the public right-of-way between the hours of 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Applicants must have a valid City of Santa Barbara Business License and be current on all applicable City taxes. Vehicles must have commercial registration issued by the California DMV. Contractors Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits are valid for up to one year and expire on June 30.
Temporary Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits shall be valid for no longer than five (5) consecutive days and are renewable for up to an additional five (5) days. A temporary permit may not be issued at any specific address or to any specific vehicle for more than ten (10) total days in any 90-day period.
For Residents: Residents of the City of Santa Barbara may apply for temporary permits to park an oversized vehicle adjacent to their homes.
For Visitors: Visitors to the City of Santa Barbara may apply for temporary permits to park an oversized vehicle adjacent to a residential address they are visiting.
For Businesses: Companies doing business in the City of Santa Barbara may apply for temporary permits to park an oversized vehicle adjacent to the residential or commercial address at which they are working.
