Tree Removals Coming Up

The Parks and Recreation Department has contracted with Tierra Verde Tree Care to provide tree removal services over the next several weeks. Urban forestry staff have identified 25 trees throughout the City that require removal. Over the last several months, together with Risk Management and the Streets Division of the Public Works Department, we assessed the trees for tree health, property damage and safety concerns. The trees to be removed all suffer from severe declines in health or pose high property and safety risks that staff cannot mitigate without removal.

Over the next several months, the Parks and Recreation Department has also contracted with Mariposa Tree Service to prune more than 100 ficus trees throughout the City, including 33 on Milpas Street. The trees will be pruned to reduce lateral canopy over roads and buildings, which will both improve tree health and reduce the risk of limb failure.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Parks Division at (805) 564-5433 or send an email to Trees@SantaBarbaraCA.gov.
