Most Parks and Recreation Department parks and facilities remain open as of today, Tuesday, December 12, 2017. There are two exceptions, neither of which is related to the Thomas Fire. We also have a note for patrons of the Municipal Tennis Center.
Closed December 9, 2017 through January 2, 2018
The entire facility at Los Baños del Mar Pool is closed for maintenance and improvement projects. For more information on this, please read our news item on these projects.

Open; some classes rescheduled this week, will resume December 18, 2017
100 East Carrillo Street
The hardwood floors at the Carrillo Recreation Center are being refinished this week, so some classes will either take this week off or be moved to alternate meeting spaces in the building. Participants have been notified, but please call the Carrillo Rec front desk at (805) 897-2519 if you have any questions.
Please note that Friday night swing dance at the Carrillo Recreation Center is canceled for this Friday, December 15.
Contra Dance is canceled for this Sunday, December 17.
Open; courts are somewhat ashy
1414 Park Place, Santa Barbara
Muni Tennis is open, but the courts may be ashy from the Thomas Fire. We will not be cleaning or hosing down courts, as stirring up or washing away the ash could exacerbate current problems with air and water quality.
That said, tennis and pickleball courts are open and being used; if you have any questions or concerns, please call the Municipal Tennis Center office at (805) 564-5589 or email Tennis Specialist Nance Wheeler at NWheeler@SantaBarbaraCA.gov.
Open; "Skate Saturdays" youth-only skate clinic canceled
East Cabrillo Boulevard at Garden Street
Skater's Point skate park remains open to the public, but Skate Saturdays, our youth-only skateboarding clinic on Saturday mornings, is canceled until further notice. This cancelation is due to poor air quality from the Thomas Fire.
Skate Saturdays are usually scheduled for Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. For more information on Skate Saturdays, please click here.
As always, our staff is happy to answer any questions you may have. If you're not sure where to start, give our main office front desk a call at (805) 564-5418 or send an email to eRecreation@SantaBarbaraCA.gov.
We'll also be putting out Parks and Recreation Department updates on our social media accounts and (in the case of emergency closures) our email list.
Please remember that the Parks and Recreation Department will only be putting out information related to Department operations. We are not an official source for Thomas Fire or other emergency information. For emergency information, please turn to information put out by the City of Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County, and official emergency response authorities.
