Celebrate Pi Day + Explore the World of Wrinkle in Time at Central Library

Celebrate math and delicious circular baked goods at our 3rd annual Pi Day celebration on March 14th at the Central Library, 40 E. Anapamu.

This event, which will take place from 4-6 pm in the Faulkner Gallery, includes several ways for school-age children and their families to explore the irrational number Pi, which is the ratio between a circle’s circumference and its diameter.

Participants will play math games, participate in art projects inspired by Pi, and learn about robotics. The Library’s regular weekly Coding Lab will also feature Pi-themed activities. The first 100 children to participate in 5 activities will also get to take home a mini Pi(e) generously donated by WalMart.

“A book, too, can be a star, explosive material, capable of stirring up fresh life endlessly, a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe.” - Madeleine L’Engle

To celebrate the release of the movie adaptation of the beloved literary classic, families are invited to experience the universe of A Wrinkle in Time at the Central Library on Saturday, March 17th. All planned activities will explore the novel's themes of science, outer space, and empowerment. Children will be invited to participate in themed activities such as conducting experiments in Mrs. Murry’s Science Lab, a travel through an outer space obstacle course, and a scavenger hunt to find Mr. Murry. Participants will also be able to build spaceships with our MakeDo cardboard construction kits and design their own clay alien. Activities will take place throughout Central Library from 1-3 pm.
