The Santa Barbara Public Library System is open for regular business hours at Central Library, and the Eastside, Carpinteria, Goleta, Buellton, and Solvang.
Montecito Branch will be closed on Tuesday, December 12th.
Staff are evaluating local air quality and conditions in Carpinteria, but plan to stay open. Central Library is a distribution point for N95 masks, and the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system keeps the air fresh and filtered.
“The library is a community hub, and responding to times of community crisis is particularly important to us. We’re fortunate to be able to provide the public with relevant information and N95 masks but most importantly we’re a safe space to be, and our excellent staff don’t miss an opportunity to provide educational enrichment to children to keep them active and engaged in learning while school is canceled,” said Library Director Jessica Cadiente.
Central and Eastside Libraries have increased events for children since school will not be in session. Families can drop by anytime the library is open and build with LEGOs in the Learning Lab, make winter arts and crafts, or play any of the library’s board games.
Central Library staff will provide additional storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings for preschool ages, and have added coding and robotics classes for children ages 7-12 from 4:00-6:00 pm on Tuesday and from 2:00-4:00 pm Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Our Tech Lab will be open for video games and virtual reality from 10:00-2:00 pm on Wednesday. On Thursday we invite teens and tweens to come celebrate the upcoming release of the next Star Wars installment with crafts, games, and a movie on Thursday.
At Eastside, we are still holding our children’s comic book workshop with a professional artist on Wednesday at 3:30pm, and we’ve added family crafts and games throughout the rest of the week.
And as always, books, audiobooks, movies, and music are available for checkout, and those who aren’t able to come in can borrow electronic materials through Overdrive and Hoopla.
