Local Writers Invited to Participate at 2nd Annual Indie Author Day

On Saturday, October 21st, 2017, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, The Santa Barbara Public Central Library will host its second annual Indie Author Day in the Faulkner Gallery at 40 E. Anapamu Street in Santa Barbara. This event is a celebration of independent authors in the greater Santa Barbara community.

The day will begin with a conversation with successful Central Californian independent author Elizabeth Hunter on how she built her writing career.  Then, participants are invited to three rounds of breakout sessions where experienced and aspiring independent authors can collaborate to discuss strategies for getting independently published books in libraries and bookstores; marketing; design; and of course, writing. Rather than focusing on a panel of experts, these will be participatory workshops where all participants will be able to ask questions and share their experiences.

“After launching our Local Author Collection last year, we learned there is a large pool of emerging and independently published authors in the Santa Barbara area, all of whom have taken different paths to publishing and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with fellow authors. With this event, the Library seeks to provide a way for writers to connect with each other while also celebrating their work,” said Library Director Jessica Cadiente.

Finally, participants may reserve a space in the Book Showcase to be held on the Library’s main floor after the sessions have concluded. The first 50 authors to register may participate in the book signing and sales. Attendees are also invited to add their book to the Santa Barbara Central Library’s Local Author Collection. Since debuting last October, 95 books have been added to the collection.
