Donate and Support Your Library

There are a number of ways in which may supplement and support the mission of the Santa Barbara Public Library System. Your donations of time, materials, or financial contributions can enhance library services for everyone, and may be a way for you to honor or remember someone you care about, to make a tax-deductible donation, to give you an opportunity to work alongside staff in serving the community, or to join a Friends of the Library group or the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation for fundraising or library advocacy opportunities.

Financial donations can be made online on the secure Black Gold consortium portal here, or by check, addressed to: Santa Barbara Public Library c/o Library Administration, P.O. Box 1019, Santa Barbara, CA 93102.

Book donations: Due to COVID-19 we are not accepting materials donations at the branches at this time. We are accepting donations at the Central Library in the following manner:

We have partnered with Discover Books to accept donations in a blue box outside the Library's back door in the Library's lower plaza. Discovery Books will empty the bin regularly.

Park in the parking lot on Anacapa/Figueroa and walk over to the bin in the Library's lower plaza. If you have large donations we may be able to arrange pickup - contact the Central library at 805-962-7653 for details.

The following materials are not accepted:

  • Encyclopedias
  • Magazines
  • LPs, VHS, or audio cassette tapes
  • K-12 Textbooks
  • Software
  • Items that are damaged, incomplete or in poor condition.

For more information, see the Library's Author DonationCollection Development, and Donation of Money and Materials policies. To submit a book for consideration for the Local Authors Collection, please complete the submission form.
