Reference staff of the Santa Barbara Public Library System will search for and provide copies, as available, of obituaries for persons who either resided or died in Santa Barbara County. There is a $25.00 fee for this service. Obituary search requests will only be accepted by regular mail and must include payment by check or money order.

Reference staff will search obituaries in the local newspaper of record on the exact or approximate date of death and for ten days beyond the date given. Staff cannot conduct searches when no date is known, so please provide as much information as possible. Requests can take 4-6 weeks to process.
The SB County Genealogical Society is also a great resource for obituaries. They maintain a database that's updated monthly with new records, and often respond to requests within a matter of days.
