The City's Wildland Fire Plan was completed in 2004 and later adopted as our Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). Recent California fires that have devastated urban communities have heightened our community’s perception of our vulnerability to wildfire.
The Santa Barbara City Fire Department is now updating the existing CWPP and programmatic Environmental Impact Report (EIR) which is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2021.

The goal of the Wildland Fire Plan is to develop a comprehensive, coordinated Wildland Fire Program to protect lives, property, and natural resources threatened by wildland fire. The Fire Department recognizes the catastrophic impact of wildfire in our community and is committed to reducing hazards and risk through fire protection, fuel hazard reduction, public education, preparedness, and community involvement.
