In 2021 The Santa Barbara City Fire Department completed an update to the original 2004 Wildfire Protection Plan, establishing what is now called the Community Wildland Fire Protection Plan (CWPP). Recent California fires that have devastated urban communities have heightened our community's perception of our vulnerability to wildfire. Updating the CWPP and programmatic Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was made possible thanks to a $310,000 CAL FIRE Fire Prevention Grant.
Please visit the CWPP website for more information and to subscribe to our electronic newsletter for updates: https://cwpp.santabarbaraca.gov/
The goal of the CWPP is to develop a comprehensive, coordinated Wildland Fire Program to protect lives, property, and natural resources threatened by wildland fire. The Fire Department recognizes the catastrophic impact of wildfire in our community and is committed to reducing hazards and risk through fire protection, fuel hazard reduction, public education, preparedness, and community involvement.
