AIRPORT OPERATIONS SPECIALIST $22.16/HR

Under direction from the Airport Operations Supervisor, this the Airport Operations Specialist provides emergency and routine control, monitoring and dispatch functions and activities of the Security Operations Center; responds as needed for operational duties/requirements on the Airport; serves as the Airport's central point of contact for airport tenants and outside agencies; and provides responsible staff assistance to the Airport Operations Supervisor. 

Candidates for this position must have the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure situations; assess a given situation and determine the appropriate response; remember instructions and information; learn radio operations and procedures; type and enter data into the computer at a speed necessary for successful job performance; understand and follow oral and written instructions; clearly and tactfully communicate factual information to citizens; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; prepare clear and concise reports; and work independently in the absence of supervision.

One year of airport operations experience, experience as a dispatcher in a communications center, and/or a valid pilot’s license is desirable.

All candidates must:

  • Have possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
  • Pass a background investigation in accordance with TSR Part 1542,

AIRPORT PATROL OFFICER $28.91/HR

Under general supervision, provide armed airport law enforcement with arrest and detention authority to comply with Transportation Security Agency Regulations and utilizing the City’s Airport Security Program.

The Airport Patrol Officer must have knowledge of principles and practices associated with criminal justice procedures and investigative techniques; California vehicle and penal code; firearm safety and self-defense.  The Airport Patrol Officer must be able to prepare clear and concise reports; effectively use a firearm, baton and chemical agents; enforce City and Airport codes, ordinances, rules and regulations; and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

All candidates must:

  • Possess a valid California driver's license at the time of appointment. 
  • Possess a valid POST Basic Course Module II certificate of completion or higher.

  • Possess a valid baton and chemical agent certificate.

  • Successfully complete a background investigation, polygraph, psychological exam and a safety medical exam.

  • Obtain a valid PC 832.1 certificate of completion within 90 days of appointment.

AIRPORT TRAFFIC AIDE $12.65/HR 
Patrol the loading zone in front of the Airport Terminal building and parking lots to ensure the orderly flow of vehicular traffic by explaining parking regulations to motorists or by issuing citations. Staff the exit lane in the airline terminal building to ensure unauthorized persons do not enter the concourse.  May be required to serve as an escort in restricted areas of the Airport. May be required to perform security checks of the Airport Terminal building or of the commercial aircraft parking ramp.  Position will work 15-20 hours per week. CAMP/YEAR ROUND CLASS B, AND YOUTH BUS DRIVERS $13.40-$20.40/HR D.O.E.  

The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for Class-B and Youth Bus Drivers to assist with the delivery of summer camp and year round activities.  Drivers work 30-40 hours per week in the summer and 10-20 hours in the non-summer months transporting camp and after school program participants.  Be an effective representative of the City and the Department of Parks and Recreation.  Provide excellent customer service to passengers and proper supervision.  Maintain discipline and ensure appropriate passenger behavior and compliance with relevant laws, safety practices, City policies and procedures, and vehicle rules such as: proper use of seatbelts, safe loading and unloading, vehicular cleanliness, and proper storage of personal items. Ability to provide exceptional levels of customer service to the downtown patrons entering and exiting our City’s parking lots. Answer customer questions in a professional and friendly manner. Receive tickets from customers exiting the parking lots. Determine applicable fees, collect fees and make change in an accurate and timely manner. NEIGHBORHOOD FACILITIES MONITOR  $11.40/HR D.O.E.

The Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for Neighborhood Facilities Monitors to oversee private parties and special events at  neighborhood centers on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to ensure customers are following rules and regulations, including required music decibel levels. Hours vary month to month based on rentals booked at each facility. Must be responsible and dependable, have a valid driver’s license, have solid communication skills and work independently. POLICE RECORDS SPECIALIST $19.98/HR D.O.E.
Part-time position hours varied.  Under general supervision performs a variety of functions related to the maintenance and preservation of police records, and support duties in the Police Records Bureau.  Enter data including arrest and crime information, traffic accidents, property and evidence, records, fingerprints and booking identification, restraining orders and subpoenas into local and/or State and National computerized files; input corrections and updates; verify data for accuracy and completeness; maintain a variety of statistical records; purge information as necessary.  Answer telephone and computer inquiries, assist at the public service counter; take and record crime information; provide information on City policies/procedures and legal statutes/requirements pertinent to law enforcement; receive found property or evidence; verify ownership and release towed vehicles. Complete a variety of reports, forms, and logs; file, copy, and distribute reports; participate in the maintenance of a complex filing system; perform various clerical duties in support of assigned functions.  Calculate and collect fees for fingerprinting, reports, clearance letters, photographs, etc. Collect bail for warrants; set court dates; clear warrants from local or State system; issue receipts and forward monies to appropriate court.  Operate a variety of office equipment including computer/printer, cash register, copier, FAX, scanner, Live Scan fingerprint machine, microfilm reader/printer, and switchboard; input and retrieve data and text.  Process the mail including receiving, sorting, and distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence.   As necessary, perform female pat-down searches and strip searches or obtain urine samples from in-custody defendants; supervise juveniles in temporary hold situations; assist in temporary detention of drunk drivers, and clerical support work for Police personnel as needed.  Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.  Work Schedule: 24 hour coverage, may be assigned to any shift.
RECREATION INCLUSION SPECIALIST $13.40 - $17.40/HR D.O.E.

RECREATION YOUTH SPORTS COACH $13.40/HR 
The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for after-school Youth Sports Coaches. Youth Sports Coaches are assigned to local elementary school teams for children in the second through sixth grades. Coaches lead practice sessions and games throughout the traditional school year (September-May). The three after school sports we offer are: flag football (September-November), blacktop basketball (December-March) and soccer (March-May). All Youth Sports Coaches must be available Monday-Friday from 2:30PM-5:30PM; coaches work approximately 5-10 hours per week, depending upon whether coaches take on one or two teams. Additional hours are offered for coaches selected to work at RAP sites. Applicants must have experience coaching at the youth level to be considered for this position. The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for Skateboard Program Instructors. Skateboard Instructors supervise and teach skateboard techniques to children ages 4-12 during Saturday Skate Clinics and week-long Summer Sk8 Camp programs. Skateboard Instructors are responsible for participant safety, assessing participant skating skills, planning age-appropriate skate activities, and assisting participants with pushing, standing, balancing, and intermediate skills such as Ollies and dropping into bowls. Skateboard Instructors also assist with participant sign-in and sign-out, equipment safety inspections and repairs, walking participants to the bathroom, meeting and greeting parents, promoting positive relationships with the community, and enforcing Skater’s Point rules and guidelines.  WATERFRONT WORKER VII $12.90/HR 
 The City of Santa Barbara's Waterfront Department is currently hiring for two positions, one position at Sterns Wharf and one position at the Harbor.  Positions will work 24 - 32 hours per week.  Shift hours are 14:00 - 23:00, 16:00 - 23:00 and 7:30 - 16:00, includes Saturday and Sunday work and swing shift hours.  Duties will include light maintenance and custodian work.  Must have current California Drivers License.  Applications may be picked up and submitted at the Harbor Maintenance office located at 117 C Harbor Way between the hours of 7:30 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 16:00.
