Tenant / Landlord Task Force

All City Board and Commission meetings are cancelled through March, unless meetings can be facilitated through telecommunications to avoid close personal contact. To protect public safety and slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Santa Barbara City Council adopted an emergency proclamation authorizing the City Administrator to take action necessary to respond to the local emergency.


The Tenant / Landlord Task Force was established on June 20, 2017 to consider and make recommendations to Council regarding tenant protection alternatives.

General Functions

  • To consider and make recommendations to Council on the following
  • Enhancement options for the City’s Rental Housing Mediation Program
  • Mandatory leases
  • Safety inspections
  • Just cause evictions
  • Other tenant protection alternatives (except rent control), as appropriate.”
