The Building and Fire Code Board of Appeals was established in 1983 to interpret the provisions of the Building and Fire Codes, including the suitability of alternate materials. Before the establishment of this Board, such appeals were heard by the Architectural Board of Review.
The Building and Fire Code Board of Appeals has no set number of members, therefore, appointments will be made on an "as needed" basis. Please refer to the current Vacancy List for vacancy information.
Santa Barbara Municipal Code mandates that appeals shall be scheduled before a panel of five (5) appointed Board Members, whom shall be selected by the Community Development Director or the Fire Code Official as may be appropriate based on the subject matter.
