As of January 1, 2019, Senate Bill 946, also known as the California Sidewalk Vendor Law, requires all cities to support and facilitate sidewalk vendors. This will be a change for Santa Barbara, as most vending in the public right of way, parks and beaches is currently prohibited. In preparation for the new rules, Council will be considering updates to the City's municipal code so that Santa Barbara is in compliance with State law. The draft sidewalk vending ordinance was heard by the City Council Ordinance Committee on December 7, 2021 in which they recommended that Council adopt the draft ordinance at the February 8, 2022 City Council meeting.
