On December 5, 2017, the Santa Barbara City Council adopted an ordinance adding Chapter 9.44 Commercial Cannabis Businesses to the Santa Barbara Municipal Code to regulate and permit Commercial Cannabis Businesses in the City including:
On January 23, 2018, The City Council established the procedures to govern the application process for the types of cannabis businesses listed above. To apply for a Commercial Cannabis Business license, submit an application through PlanetBids, SantaBarbaraCA.gov/PlanetBids.
Interested parties must register with PlanetBids to review, obtain, and submit applications. When registering, use category code 45300. Once registered, search Bid Opportunities using this category code to find the application.
Applications will be available beginning on February 1, 2018 and will be accepted through March 30, 2018. Obtain application materials and submit your application through, SantaBarbaraCA.gov/PlanetBids.
Applications will be evaluated through a process and criteria established by the City Council.
On January 23, 2018, the City Council established a maximum of three (3) Retailer-Storefront Commercial Cannabis Businesses to be allowed within the City at any given time. Applications for Retailer-Storefront Commercial Cannabis Businesses will be scored and ranked after evaluation.
SBMC Chapter 9.44.090(C) requires the City Administrator, or his or her designee, to conduct a public meeting so that the public may comment on the proposed commercial cannabis business. Agendas for these public meetings are available here:
