Our hip, athletic counselors make Sports & Beach Camp popular, fun and challenging! One-week sessions give parents more flexibility with scheduling. Lively and varied activities include sports like archery, nationball, flag football, ultimate frisbee, individual andteam Olympic-style events. Excursions include the back side of Rincon, Carpineria State Beach and Beast Beach.All counselors are certifiedClassB drivers, certified inFirst Aid, CPR and BasicWater Rescue and Sports and Beach Campcertified Beach Guards attend all beachactivities.

Transportation

Children are transported utilizing the City of Santa Barbara’s CHP-inspected 15-passenger vans. Transportation is provided by counselors with Class B drivers licenses.

Meet the Staff of Sports and Beach Camp Summer 2008

Shamus O’Donnell, Director
Shamus also known as Mr. Sports and Beach has worked his way up the ladder from camper to Junior Counselor to Counselor and was Sports and Beach Camp director for summers from 2001 through 2005. After a two year break we’re delighted Shamus is back! In the two-years since Shamus was director, he’s graduated from college, traveled, and gotten married. During the school year Shamus works as a P.E. teacher at Peabody Charter School.

Mark Vanderlinde, Counselor
Mark is another familiar face with Sports and Beach Camp who has worked for Youth Activities for seven years. Mark has always loved sports and started working for Parks and Recreation while he was in high school as a sports official, then a program leader for our Summer Fun program and now is a recent graduate from Long Beach State with a degree in Kinesiology and Athletic Training. This will be Marks’ third year at Sports and Beach Camp.

Eddie Atelian, Counselor
Eddie is a long-time favorite staff of Youth Activities. Eddie has worked for the A-OK program for the past three years at McKinley School as well as in the Summer Fun Program as Director and last summer co-directed Sports and Beach Camp. Back by popular demand you’ll see Eddie shining this summer at Sports and Beach Camp.

Jasmin Mera, Counselor
As we do each summer, in all of our summer camps we hire one bright shining star to be the future for our programs. This year meet Jasmin Mera. Jasmine is a student at San Marcos High School who worked this past school year as a soccer coach for Parks and Recreation at LaColina Junior high. Jasmin is a refined soccer player who plays for Arsenal Soccer Club as well as for San Marcos High School. Through coaching at LaColina Jasmin has proved she’s dependable and dedicated earning her spot with the Sports and Beach Camp team.
