This project proposes to construct a 2.6 mile-long separated pathway for bicyclists, runners, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities along Las Positas and Modoc Roads.
The pathway will start on Modoc Road at Calle De Los Amigos and continue east to Las Positas Road, then veer south along Las Positas Road to Cliff Drive.
The City of Santa Barbara received $1.37 million in grant funding through the Federal Active Transportation Program (ATP) to design this project, with the remaining design costs being provided by the City. Over the coming years, construction funds will be sought from competitive state and federal grant sources that fund bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
Funding for construction has not yet been identified, so there is no construction timeframe yet. City staff plans to apply for construction funding through the next ATP grant cycle in mid-2016. Due to the size and scale of this project, it may have to be constructed in phases. The City’s Bicycle Master Plan anticipates the project to be completed between 2020 and 2025.
