The City of Santa Barbara is fortunate to have a diverse number of nonprofits and other organizations that host numerous special events in our community throughout the year. Adding to this diversity are the following events that the City’s Parks and Recreation Department organizes each year.
Each Sunday from 10am to dusk (and on certain Saturdays), Cabrillo Boulevard is transformed into a marketplace of unique artwork and handmade crafts. Around 200 Santa Barbara County artisans can be found selling their original paintings, photographs, sculpture, jewelry and other crafts. Click here for further information on this weekly event.
One of the most popular summer traditions in Santa Barbara is the Concerts in the Park series. Held in Chase Palm Park each Thursday evening during the summertime, these free concerts offer a wide range of musical performances, sure to please everyone’s taste. El Desfile De Los Niños, also known as the Children’s Fiesta Parade, was started in 1929 and each year since it gives young children and their families a chance to parade down State Street in their traditional costumes and Fiesta-decorated wagons, bicycles or other non-motorized carts. The Parks and Recreation Department has been organizing this free annual Fiesta activity for many years. Click here for further information and a parade application.
The City of Santa Barbara and the nonprofit organization, SPARKLE, co-host this event at West Beach in honor of our nation’s independence. Food vendors offer tasty treats starting at 12 noon, patriotic and music entertainment take place from 7- 9 pm and the day’s finale is a glorious display of fireworks.
Come join us for this free annual egg hunt, organized by the Parks and Recreation Department and cosponsored by the Santa Barbara Police Activities League, the Santa Barbara Police Officers Association and the Santa Barbara Firefighters Association. Separate egg hunt areas for different aged kids make this a fun and safe activity for everyone. Egg hunt takes place each year on the Saturday before Easter at Chase Palm Park and Parque de los Niños, starting at 10 am sharp. Only toddlers to 8 year olds may participate.
