Each year, chipping services are offered to those homeowners who reside within the Wildland Fire Suppression Assessment District located in portions of the Foothill and Extreme Foothill High Fire Hazard Areas of Santa Barbara’s foothills. Chipping services are provided to encourage property owners to create a defensible space and provide a cost effective way to dispose of cut material.

Chipping Completed for 2017
The annual Defensible Space Chipping program for the 2017 year has been completed! This year more than of 300 tons of vegetation removed by homeowners was chipped. Additionally, we were successful in recycling 100% of the chips. The City of Santa Barbara Fire Department would like to thank all homeowners within the Wildland Fire Suppression Assessment District for your continual efforts in creating and maintaining an effective defensible space area around structures in High Fire Hazard Areas.
If you have any questions about annual Defensible Space Chipping Project or would like to schedule a Voluntary Defensible Space Inspection and you live within the Wildland Fire Suppression Assessment District, please contact Chris Braden with the City of Santa Barbara Fire Department at (805)564-5737.
