How much does our water supply cost?

The unit cost per acre-foot for supply shown in the chart below. These costs represent the variable cost to use the source (major conveyance and treatment), as well as the incremental new costs for capital infrastructure or acquisition (for ocean desalination or water purchases, respectively). The costs shown do not include debt service or fixed costs for existing sources, since those are considered “sunk” costs and do not affect decisions on alternative drought supplies. In addition, the costs to operate and maintain the City’s distribution system are not included; only the costs to deliver water to the point of connection to the distribution system are shown.
