What percentage of the City’s water supply will the desalination plant provide?

Based on the City’s 2011 Long-term Water Supply Plan, the City would use the facility as a drought relief measure at a capacity of 3,125 acre feet per year (AFY), which is approximately 20% of average annual demands under normal weather conditions.  However, the original treatment capacity was 7,500 AFY with potential for expansion, and it is possible that the City may evaluate the capacity of the facility based on circumstances during the current dry period. The City is currently working to develop performance specifications to determine the appropriate production capacity if the desalination facility is brought back online.
