TEAM COACH George Richardson
AVP Men’s Team Advisor/Consultant

George has coached both nationally and internationally for the past six years. He started his coaching career as an instructor for the Beach Volleyball Clinics conducted by Jon Lee through the City's Parks and Recreation Department.

George has provided instruction to some of the highest-level beach volleyball athletes in the United States . In 2003 George Richardson was recognized by the United States Volleyball Association as a National Beach Volleyball Coach. On the 2005 Men's AVP Tour, Richardson coached the team of Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena. He also worked with Dax Holdren, Jeff Nygaard, Patti Scofield, Jill Changaris and Nikki Audett. In the past Richardson has also advised Todd Rogers, Sean Scott, Eric Fonoimoana, Larry Witt, Andrew Witt, John Hyden and Sean Rosenthal.

When it comes to "technical assistance," George Richardson is probably the foremost person for this aspect of coaching currently on the AVP Men's Tour. The successful AVP top teams were all three-man teams, although there were only two players inside the court lines. These three-man teams consisted of the two players plus a "coach" working as advisor, psychologist, consultant, trainer, strategist, and technical assistant on the sidelines during matches and training sessions.
Richardson utilizes his film and computer background, along with highly-sophisticated equipment, for documenting history, events, competitions and training.

George is unique due to his utilization of "Legends" from the game of beach volleyball (i.e. Ron Von Hagen, Ron Lang and Karch Kiraly) to get important points across to contemporary players. Von Hagen told George to advise players: "Don't let what you can't do keep you from doing what you can" and Ron Lang has helped George stress points of strategy to current players. Karch Kiraly has been available to George when he has needed help in getting teamwork philosophies across to players. Other people who have affected or contributed to Richardson 's competence are John Lee, Greg Lee, Rick Olmstead, Steve Rottman, Coach Jeff Alzina and Coach John Wooden of UCLA fame. Richardson is a competent "strategist" with the ability to devise a reliable game plan against any opponent.

Richardson is currently making a film documentary about beach volleyball called "Brotherhood of the Sand."
