We’ve got spirit, yes we do! We’ve go spirit, how about YOU!?!
Get in the spirit this summer by enrolling in our exciting cheer and dance clinic. This week long camp offers instruction in basic cheers, sideline chants, dance choreography and half-time routines…all to get you in the groove! Participants will learn about proper nutrition and receive tips from Paul Mitchell students on doing hair and make-up. This five day camp culminates in a public performance where parents and friends are bound to be thrilled with your new skills!
While sessions may vary, Cheer Skills and Dance Thrills guarantees a GROOVY time!
- Welcome and Warm- up (9-10am)
Stretches and conditioning drills will take place at the beginning of each day for summer camp participants. An example would be stretching of ligaments-- especially legs-- to prepare for upcoming drills or toe touches. Other exercises might also include sit ups, push ups, yoga and partner stretching.
- Stunts and Cheers (10-11am)
Participants will learn correct placement for sideline chants and basic cheers. Group formations will coordinate with these cheers as well as formation transitions. If time allows, we will also work on some tricks that can be used for any portion of dance or cheerleading.
- Dance Choreography (11am-12noon)
Participants begin to learn contemporary dances, such as routines in hip hop, street jazz and character jazz. This allows them to grow as performers and maximizes their dance vocabulary and style. Everyone will have the opportunity to incorporate their own style.
- Half-time Routines (12noon-1pm)
Participants will learn a combination of cheering elements, tricks, jumps, and choreography to comprise a half-time routine. Participants will work on their showmanship and individual personality to strengthen their skills.
- Performance
The performance day consists of the participants having their hair and make-up done by Paul Mitchell students, where each camper will learn how to achieve a professional level of stage presence. A scheduled performance will then take place in the community where participants will have the opportunity to share their camp motto of : Spirt, Service and Sisterhood!

Things You Need to Know
The difference between the first and second camp is that the second will be a little more difficult then the first due to the age difference. Don't worry if you have never cheered or danced before. This camp will be sure to get you on your feet and grooving in no time! Additionally, lunch is not provided. It is important for the participants to bring their own snacks and water to help keep them energized!
What to Bring
Parents, everything you need to know for your child is listed in the welcome letter! Please view this letter to know what your child needs and what fun they will be having during the week.
About the Director
Hello, my name is Brittany Castillo. I am currently a junior attending the University of California Santa Barbara. I will receive my Bachelors of Arts in Dance in 2010. I have been dancing for 17 years in tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, modern, and lyrical. I have had such a wonderful time over the years teaching ballet, jazz, hip hop and cheerleading. During junior high I participated in cheer and had a blast. The excitement of dancing and cheering has stuck with me through all these years. I am one of those people who love sharing my talents through performance and teaching. Come join me in learning the newest moves in dance and cheer! This camp will leave you with hot new moves and wonderful memories.
