Wastewater Sampling and Testing |
| El Estero Wastewater Treatment Plant Safe, Clean, Effective: Protecting the Ocean | Sampling and Testing to Assure Safety
To assure protection of public health and environment, the City conducts an extensive water quality monitoring program. The water is tested before, during and after treatment to assure the discharge from the treatment plant does not affect the marine ecology. Sample results from water tests show that the water is safe. Test results for most pollutants are far below permitted limits for safe discharge. In fact many of the pollutants cannot even be found. | Laboratory The City operates a state of the art water and wastewater laboratory. Each year over 4,000 specialized tests are run on the wastewater before, during, and after treatment, and on the recycled water. Many types of tests are performed in the City laboratory, the most common include analysis for heavy metals, bacteria, oil and grease, solids, and biochemical oxygen demand (a measure of waste strength).
