Residential Parking Program

 


A Resident Permit is only obtainable by an applicant whose principal residence is in a Permit Parking Area.  This permit allows a resident vehicle to park up to 72 hours in 75 & 90-minute zones that are POSTED with Parking Permit Exemptions.

Additional Information:

The City has nine Resident Permit Parking Areas.  Permit A, by the harbor, has restricted parking only on Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays between 10:00 AM and 5:00 P.M. Permits "B" through "G", located Downtown, have restricted parking Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.  Permit M, located on the Mesa, and has restricted parking on School Days from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Area "L" is a small area that encompasses Hacienda Way, Hacienda Drive, Portola Lane and Parks Road. Parking in area "L" is restricted to residents only - 24 hours a day.

Area “A”, “L” and “M” Resident and Visitor Permits are valid in "Resident Only" zones in their designated areas. Resident Parking Permits (R.P.P.) is only valid in 90-minute zones where "Permit Exempt" appears on the same sign. Some blocks may have only one side of the street posted. The Permit Exemption Must Appear On The Same Sign As The Time Restriction. The permit does not guarantee on-street parking.

Vehicles displaying Parking Permits are subject to all other parking restrictions, i.e., 15-minute green zone, 20-minute commercial yellow zone, handicapped, red zones, and street sweeping or bike lanes.

Note: There is a City-Wide Ordinance that limits ALL on-street parking to a
consecutive period of 72 hours (
SBMC § 10.44.060). 
Each legal dwelling unit is allowed no more than THREE annual residential permits and ONE visitor permit. 
Permits are non transferable (
SBMC § 10.46.062).

 


Procedure to obtain a Residential Parking Permit
:
Stop by the Parking Office to fill out an application or click the link below and bring your application in.

You will need to bring the following pieces of information with you

  • California Vehicle Registration for each vehicle. The vehicle MUST be registered to the resident.
  • A Property Tax Bill or equivalent documentation of ownership.  A rental agreement, if no rental agreement exists; obtain a Residential Verification Form to be completed by your landlord.
  • One of the following showing your name and Current address. NO P.O. BOXES!

- A piece of formal mail, i.e., utility bill, phone bill, etc.

- Driver's License

- Personalized check

- Postal mail re -routing label

  • A $20.00 non-refundable processing fee for EACH permit. These fees are not pro-rated.
    Temporary Residential Parking Permits are issued over the counter. If the temporary permit expires before receiving the permanent permit you must call the Parking Office or come by and pick up a new one.  We are not responsible for parking citations issued for expired permits
