Mission Canyon Plan Update documents coming soon! Mission Canyon Specific Plan Update Background: Mission Canyon, in the County of Santa Barbara, is within the City's Sphere of Influence. In 1984, a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) between the County and City of Santa Barbara was adopted with a provision that sewer service for some areas of the Canyon would be provided by the City contingent upon the adoption of a joint City-County Specific Plan, which was subsequently adopted. The JPA states that any amendment to the Specific Plan must be approved by both the City and the County. The County is currently working to update the Mission Canyon Specific Plan, essentially through the draft proposed Mission Canyon Community Plan and Design Guidelines documents. The first step is to initiate the Plan for environmental review purposes. The County also has an extensive website regarding the Mission Canyon Community Plan. Initiation Draft Documents: Available draft proposed Mission Canyon Community Plan documents are also available for public review at the City Planning and Zoning Counter at 630 Garden Street.
