   City Sandbag Policy

Sand Bag Policy  |  Póliza de Sacos de Arena |

Purpose
To provide City residents with sandbags to protect private property under storm emergency conditions of heavy rain and runoff.

Procedure
City Street
crews and staff will establish locations to furnish sand and sandbags to the public. Residents should bring their own gloves and shovels to fill the bags they need.

When
Distribution sites will be opened when a "Flood Watch" is issued by National Weather Service and confirmed by City of Santa Barbara Public Works Officials. Confirmation is required to ensure that the distribution site is ready to serve the public. -

Locations

Primary Site

    • City of Santa Barbara Annex Yard - 401 East Yanonali Street

Alternate Sites (not opened without a specific announcement from Public Works Staff)

    • Streets/D&C Building - 625 Laguna Street
    • Golf Course Parking Lot - 3500 McCaw Avenue

Limit
Twenty (20) sandbags per trip. In non-emergency situations, sandbags can be obtained from your local home improvement or building supply store.

Residents are reminded that the City Sand Bag Policy is designed to assist in the protection of private property during storm emergency conditions. Protection of private property begins prior to storm events with regular preventive maintenance of drainage facilities on your property. To report problems with facilities maintenance by the City of Santa Barbara, call (805) 564-5458. If public safety is in danger, dial 911.
