The City of Santa Barbara has contracted with local agencies to provide essential social services for many years. Until 1986, the Federal government provided funds for this purpose through the Federal Revenue Sharing Program. When Federal support was eliminated, the City Council committed to continue funding human service programs through the City's General Fund. The City allocated funding in the amount of $703,256 for the FY 2011-2012 Human Services program. Programs shall use Human Service funds to provide direct services; funds shall not be used for capital improvements or mortgage payments. Click to view current Human Services projects. Funding Priorities for the Human Services program are: First Priority: Proposals which help meet basic human needs, and programs that directly relate to City-initiated collaborative efforts, such as the South Coast Gang Task Force and the Strategies to Address Community Issues Related to Homelessness; and Second Priority: Programs that are preventative in nature and/or promote the highest degree of functioning the individual is capable of achieving; Agencies must present a clear and compelling argument for funding under the priorities as described.
