CDBG Programs – Current Projects

The following projects were approved by City Council on March 25, 2008 for CDBG funding from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009:

AIDS Housing S.B.

To provide housing and end-of-life care to low-income or homeless individuals, and to continue caring for low-income individuals and families who have HIV/AIDS.

Casa Esperanza
Operation of homeless day center to help each client achieve his or her maximum level of self-sufficiency and, where possible, move out of homelessness.

Catholic Charities

Reduce the number of families or individuals who become homeless and/or are in a constant economic crisis in the City of Santa Barbara by providing financial assistance and case management.

City S.B. - Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program
Improve and preserve affordable housing in Santa Barbara for low-income households by providing inspections, loan counseling and low interest loans for housing rehabilitation.

City S.B. - Rental Housing Mediation Task Force
Help maintain rental housing by providing information on the rights and responsibilities of parties involved in rental situations, and providing mediation services as needed.

City S.B. – Parks and Recreation, Ortega Welcome House
To provide Eastside neighborhood residents, including youth, families and communtiy groups with an improved community facility that is safe, secure and accessible, and to facilitate neighborhood improvement and safety goals.

City S.B. – Public Works, Pedestrian Lighting
Improve alternate transportation access to neighborhood schools and coastal areas for students and the public by installing pedestrian lights along the Loma Alta corridor.

City S.B. – Public Works, Safe & Clean Neighborhoods
To create clean and safe neighborhoods by creating barriers between railroad property and public locations and homes on four city sites to help reduce criminal activity, illegal dumping, graffiti and litter.

Domestic Violence Solutions – Shelter

Provide safe emergency shelter and supportive services for battered women and their children who are in danger of physical harm; to assist women in rebuilding their lives so that they can live independently and free of violence; to assist the children by helping to build their self esteem and to deal with the many emotions they experience as a result of witnessing or experiencing violence in their home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Family Service Agency – SAIL

Provide handicap access and repair/maintenance/chore services to seniors and disabled persons to assist them in remaining independent in their own homes as long as safely possible.

Girls Inc. – Carpet Replacement

To replace the 15-year-old worn carpeting at the Santa Barbara Center to minimize health and safety risks.

Legal Aid Foundation – Building Repair

To replace the doors and windows, and repair the roof of the Santa Barbara office.

Noah's Anchorage YMCA www.ciymca.org/Noahs_Anchorage/index.html
Provide safe housing, direct shelter, and emergency services to homeless, disenfranchised, dysfunctional and unemployed youth in order to help them through their immediate crisis and into a family reunification or alternative placement.

Provide basic emergency human needs, including shelter and food, and provide transitional supportive services designed to end homelessness for families with children in Santa Barbara.

Women's Economic Ventures

Increase family self-sufficiency through micro-enterprise development by providing classroom training, follow-up peer group support and loans to low and moderate-income entrepreneurs who don't qualify for conventional bank loans and who have been traditionally under-served by conventional lending and educational institutions.
