CDBG Programs – Current Projects

The following projects were approved by City Council on March 22, 2011 for CDBG funding from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012:

Casa Esperanza Homeless Center

Casa Esperanza Homeless Center

Grant funds are used toward the operation of a homeless day center that helps each member achieve his or her maximum level of self-sufficiency and helps as many as possible to access needed services to transition out of homelessness.

Domestic Violence Solutions – Emergency Shelter

This program provides safety and supportive services for battered women and their children who are in danger of physical harm; assists women rebuild their lives so that they can live independently and free of violence; and intervenes in the cycle of violence by assisting the children deal with the emotions they experience as a result of witnessing or experiencing violence in their homes.

Channel Islands YMCA – Noah’s Anchorage Youth Crisis Shelter
Channel Islands YMCA - Serving Santa Barbara & Ventura Counties
This program provides shelter and emergency services to homeless, runaway, disenfranchised, and dysfunctional youth in order to help them through their immediate crisis. Then they work with these youth toward family re-unification or alternative placement. The program also seeks to assure that these youth have the social and independent living skills necessary to succeed in both adolescence and adulthood.

Transition House - Comprehensive Services

This program enables motivated families to successfully transition into permanent housing and economic self-sufficiency. This is achieved by providing for all basic human needs while delivering comprehensive anti-poverty services.

Women’s Economic Ventures - Microenterprise Development
Women's Economic Ventures
To create and sustain businesses and jobs in the city of Santa Barbara, while promoting financial self-sufficiency for women and families who are underserved by conventional lending and educational institutions.

Girls, Inc. of Santa Barbara – Kitchen rehabilitation of Santa Barbara Center
Girls Incorporated of Greater Santa Barbara
Install new flooring, countertops, cabinets, paint and appliances at the Santa Barbara Center.

Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics - Westside Clinic
Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics
Repair Westside Neighborhood Clinic's damaged roof to code; and replace outdated plumbing, appliances, and paint five exam rooms to prevent equipment failure and improve safety, hygiene and aesthetic of building.

 

 

Casa Esperanza Homeless Center

Repair and replace the flooring and tile in the Day Center bathrooms.

CADA – Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse

Building repairs to the Project Recovery Facility.

Jewish Federation

Replace roof to code and rehabilitate bathrooms at Community Center.

City of SB – Access Ramps III

Provide accessible paths of travel to public facilities through construction of ADA access ramps at priority intersections within the Westside and Eastside neighborhoods (Census Tracts 11.02, 10.00, 9.00, 8.01, 8.02, and 12.04).

City of SB – Sidewalk Infill

To improve walk-ability and accessibility by construction of sidewalks within the Westside and Eastside neighborhoods (Census Tracts 11.02, 10.00, 9.00, 8.01, 8.02, and 12.04).

City of SB – Bus Shelters

Construction of bus shelters with benches and solar lighting along MTD bus lines within the lower Westside and lower Eastside neighborhoods (Census Tracts 11.02, 10.00, 9.00, 8.01, 8.02, and 12.04).

City of SB (Parks and Recreation) - Ortega Park Lighting

Install enhanced lighting at Ortega Park to increase safety for nearby residents and park users.

City of SB (Parks and Recreation) – Westside Center Cameras

Installation of cameras at the Westside Community Center and playground

City of SB – Rental Housing Mediation Task Force

The purpose of the program is to help resolve residential rental housing disputes by offering staff consultation, mediation and information dissemination on landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities regarding security deposits, termination of tenancies, habitability and repair, invasion of privacy, discrimination, rent increases, forcible evictions and general information
