Catch Basin Screens

In 2011, the Creeks Division completed a 2-year project to install screens on storm drain openings throughout the City.

Trash and debris collected at the curbside by catch basin screen.   Street sweeper passes, picking up trash collected at the curb.   Catch basin screen after the street sweeper has gone by, with no trash at the curb.

The screens help to improve water quality by preventing trash and other debris from entering the storm drains, which flow directly to our creeks and the ocean untreated.

To prevent the risk of flooding, the screens retract during heavy rain to allow storm water to flow through.

Catch basin screen opens during rain to allow water to pass through.
