Jim Armstrong, City Administrator for the City of Santa BarbaraDear Fellow Employees:

October marks the beginning of the City’s Annual Charitable Giving Campaign. Over the past several years, I have truly been impressed by the number of employees who have participated in this program to help important non-profit and charitable organizations in our community.

We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful areas of California. In this era of major economic problems, as City employees we enjoy the benefits of a steady pay check and a generous benefit program. But others in our community are not nearly as fortunate. Due to State and Federal government cutbacks, many of our fellow citizens depend more than ever on assistance from non-profit agencies to provide critical services. These organizations provide a myriad of services such as health care, child care, hospice services, literacy programs, senior assistance, and care for disabled children.

Many other organizations in our community address areas that enrich our lives. For example, local non-profits help to protect our environment, provide support to educational and athletic programs, fund college scholarships, and care for injured animals. And many cultural organizations such as museums and performing arts institutions depend on charitable contributions to support their programs and outreach to students.

I know that many employees in our organization have needed to make sacrifices due to City furloughs and concessions. However, I sincerely believe it is important that we all set a positive example through helping out others in need and supporting our community. I hope you will join me in participating in this year’s charitable giving campaign.

Sincerely,

Signed Jim Armstrong, City Administrator

James L. Armstrong
