Follow Our Reuse Tips

  • Reuse disposable products, rent or borrow things that you use infrequently, and repair instead of replacing. Check out www.lessismore.org for specific suggestions.
  • Visit the Public Library. They loan books, tapes, videos, and DVDs for free.

Find a New Home for Things You No Longer Need

Donate or sell items to reuse businesses such as thrift stores, antique stores and used book shops, but don’t stop there. Food, eyeglasses, medical equipment, and hazardous chemicals can also find new life in our community. Search the Reuse Directory by material type to find a place to donate or sell used items. Some reuse businesses buy used items, some accept donations, and some sell items. The Reuse Directory also contains sources for classified ads, web based exchanges, and flea markets so you can sell it yourself. Some of the advertising is free.

Buy Used Instead of New

Donating materials to thrift stores is great for diversion from the landfill, but you can also save resources by buying used items. Vintage is cool and brings a unique look to your wardrobe and household. Get paint and other chemicals for free while you save the environment. Check the Reuse Directory for sources of used goods.

Identify Reuse Businesses

Only reuse businesses in the City of Santa Barbara are currently listed on this site. Help us to expand by telling us about reuse businesses or activities in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, or Montecito at kgumtow@santabarbaraca.gov. When identifying a reuse activity, please provide the name of the function, location, and phone number of someone who can tell us about it. If identifying a brick and mortar reuse business, please provide the same information as listed for businesses in the Reuse Directory.
