How Does it Work?

The City is divided into two zones serviced by BFI and MarBorg. Businesses south or west of State Street are serviced by BFI. MarBorg Services businesses north and east of State. See the Trash and Recycling Service Providers Map to determine your hauler. Call your hauler to initiate or change trash, yard waste, or recycling services.

BFI 965-5248
MarBorg 963-1852

Minimum business service is 32 gallons (1 can), emptied once per week.

Can or Cart Service
You can choose between 32 gallon cans, or 32, 64 or 96 gallon carts. Cans take up more room, but will be serviced from their daily location (backyard service). Carts can store more material in a smaller space, but must be located where the truck can drive up to them. They have wheels and are easy to move, even when full. Cans or carts can be emptied from 1-3 days per week.

Rolloff Boxes and Compactors

Very large businesses can get rolloff boxes or compactors for trash. Businesses can rent the containers or provide their own. If you have bulky items such as furniture, pallets, carpet, etc, the rolloff box will work well. Most rolloffs that contain bulky material and are brought to a sorting facility and most of the contents will be recycled. Compactors are a good solution for very high generators of trash such as hotels and supermarkets.

How Much Does it Cost?

Download the Business Rate Sheet for prices and service types.

Cans or Carts

Monthly rate = formula rate x number of cans x number of collection per week

Dumpsters
You will be charged for the trash service and a flat monthly bin rental rate if you do not own your dumpster. For trash bin service:

Monthly Rate = formula rate x size of dumpster (yd3) x number of dumpsters x collections per week.

Rolloff Boxes and Compactors
You will pay a flat rate for the hauling, and also per ton of material disposed. There will also be a container rental fee if you do not own the container.

Per Haul: hauling fee + landfill tipping fee x number of tons

Extra Trash

You are entitiled to up to 4 bags or cans of trash for the fee. You must call your hauler at least 24 hours in advance to make arrangements.

Dumpsters
You can get an extra pickup if your dumpster is full before collection day for the same price as regular pickup plus 15%. You must call your hauler at least 24 hours in advance to make arrangements.

Debris Boxes or Rolloffs for Large Projects and Cleanups

What's in My Garbage?

This chart represents the proportions of different materials in business trash. Please note that the chart includes only materials that are currently left in the trash, and not the materials that are currently in the recycling and greenwaste containers. Most of the items in color can be divert through recycing composting, or reuse. Only 15% or so actually needs to go to the landfill
