Police Support Services

The Office of the Chief of Police has 42 personnel assigned, both sworn and non-sworn, and is composed of two sections: Chief's Staff and Support Services Division.

This page describes the Support Services Division, which is comprised of the Business Office, Parking, and the Station Officer.

The Business Office has a Supervisor and two Senior Accounting Clerks in the section. They provide the department with budgetary, payroll, purchasing, and personnel functions. This is a big job as the Police budget is over $23 million dollars annually.

The Parking section is also supervised by the Business Supervisor. This section is staffed by three Senior Clerks and one Data Entry Clerk. The Parking Collections Section provides for data input of parking citations and processes the 80,000 to 90,000 parking tickets issued annually. Revenues for these citations amounted to over 1.4 million dollars in the 2000-2001 fiscal year.

The Station Officer is a civilian employee who works the front counter in the lobby of the Police Department.  The Station Officer assists the public in directing them to the appropriate person to handle their needs.  The Station Officer also documents certain misdemeanor reports, property damage traffic collisions and signs the "certification of corrections" for equipment citations.

The Police Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Station Officer or Desk Officer may assist you at the front counter in the Police Department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. At other times, it may be necessary to have a field officer return to the Police Department to take your report.
